International Conference on the Role of International Trade in Global Energy Transition

The National Law University Odisha (NLUO), through its Centre for International Trade Law (CITL), in collaboration with the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) and the WTO Chairs Programme (WCP), is hosting the International Conference on the Role of International Trade in Global Energy Transition on 16 - 17 January 2026 at the NLUO campus in Cuttack, Odisha. The two-day conference will bring together academicians, policymakers, legal experts, trade professionals, and energy sector representatives to deliberate on the evolving nexus between international trade and sustainable energy transition. As the world advances towards cleaner energy systems, the conference aims to explore how trade can serve as a catalyst for a just, inclusive, and resilient global energy future. The discussions will focus on key themes such as trade’s impact on energy consumption and conservation, foreign investment in renewable energy, compatibility of international energy treaties with WTO obligations, and the role of WTO mechanisms - including Trade Policy Review and Aid for Trade - in advancing clean energy goals. Sessions will also engage with significant WTO disputes, such as India - Solar Cells, Canada - Feed-in Tariff, and US - Reformulated Gasoline, to assess how multilateral trade rules intersect with national energy policies and sustainable industrial development. Participants are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers examining these intersections from legal, economic, or policy perspectives. The full paper should range between 5,000 - 8,000 words. Following the acceptance of abstracts, registered participants will be invited to present their papers during the conference. Each presentation will be allocated approximately 15 minutes. For queries and registration, participants may visit the attached Brochure.

Pre-Summit International Colloquium on Global Trade Careers, the WTO’s 30-Year Legacy, and Future Pathways

The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), in collaboration with Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU) through its Centre for WTO & WIPO Studies, School of Law and Technology, is associated with the organisation of the International Trade Law Summit titled “The WTO@30 Summit”, scheduled to be held from 2-4 October 2026 at the HNLU campus, Raipur. The Summit is being convened to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and seeks to facilitate high-level academic and policy-oriented engagement on contemporary challenges and reform trajectories within the multilateral trading system. As a lead-up to the Summit, a One-Day Pre-Summit International Colloquium on “Global Trade Careers, the WTO’s 30-Year Legacy, and Future Pathways” will be organised on 6 February 2026. The Colloquium will bring together students, research scholars, academicians, and trade practitioners to engage with the institutional evolution of the WTO, emerging issues in global trade governance, and professional pathways in international trade law and policy. The Colloquium will also mark the formal launch of the International Forum for Trade Advocacy & Research (IF-TAR), a dedicated platform aimed at strengthening advocacy, research, and capacity-building in international trade law. The WTO@30 Summit will feature technical paper presentation sessions, thematic panel discussions on key areas such as digital trade, sustainable development, competition policy, and institutional reform, and a Mock WTO Simulation-the first of its kind in India-designed to provide students and young professionals with hands-on exposure to multilateral trade negotiations and decision-making processes.
