The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), organised “Unlocking Opportunities under the India–EU Free Trade Agreement” on 1 August 2026 at Hotel Renai Cochin, Kerala. The programme brought together representatives from government, industry and academia for focused discussions on the opportunities and practical considerations arising from the India–EU Free Trade Agreement. The programme commenced with the Inaugural Session, moderated by Mr. Savio Mathew, Head, FICCI Kerala State Council. The session opened with the Welcome Address by Mr. Cherian M George, Co-Chair, FICCI KESC, Whole Time Director & CEO, Harrisons Malayalam Ltd. The session further featured addresses by Dr. James J Nedumpara, Professor and Head, Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL) and India Chair, WTO Chairs Programme; Mr. Jomy Jacob IRS, Additional Commissioner, CCO & CCA, Custom House, Cochin; and Mr. Hassan Usaid N A ITS, Deputy DGFT, Government of India. The Inaugural Session concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mr. Savio Mathew. The technical discussions commenced with an overview of the India–EU FTA, covering key provisions and opportunities, the tariff schedule, Rules of Origin, customs-related processes and benefits under the Agreement. The session was presented by Mr. Ridhish Rajvanshi, Senior Research Fellow, CTIL. This was followed by a presentation on key provisions and opportunities for services under the India–EU Trade Deal by Mr. Kailas Surendran, Young Professional, CTIL, and a session on navigating EU regulatory requirements and sustainability standards by Ms. Shana Sharma, Associate, CTIL. The programme further featured a dedicated session on CTIL’s Trade Remedies Advisory Cell, presented by Ms. Tanvi Praveen, Consultant-Legal, CTIL, highlighting the role of trade remedies in addressing challenges faced by stakeholders in international trade. This was followed by a presentation on EXIM Products by AU Small Finance Bank, delivered by Mr. Ajith K R, Product Sales Manager, RTFX, and Mr. Sunish V Unnithan, Sales Manager, RTFX. The programme concluded with an engaging Question/Answer Session, providing participants an opportunity to seek clarifications and engage with the speakers on the issues discussed. The formal proceedings concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Mr. Savio Mathew, followed by a Business Networking Lunch, allowing participants to continue the conversation and foster meaningful professional and business connections. The programme reflected CTIL and FICCI’s shared endeavour to facilitate informed dialogue on India–EU trade relations and to bring greater clarity to the legal, regulatory and practical dimensions of the India–EU FTA for businesses and other stakeholders.
