Carbon Governance and Global Justice: Reconciling Trade Competitiveness and Climate Responsibility

25-26 April 2026 09:00 AM
Jabalpur, MP
The Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL), Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, collaborated with the Centre for Studies in International Trade and Investment Laws (CITIL), Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU), Jabalpur, in organising the WTO Chairs Programme International Symposium on “Carbon Governance and Global Justice: Reconciling Trade Competitiveness and Climate Responsibility” on 25 April 2026. The second day of the symposium featured an Experts’ Panel Discussion on “Carbon Governance and Climate Justice Issues: Ensuring Equitable Climate Action in International Trade”. The discussion brought together leading experts from academia, policy, and research institutions to deliberate on the evolving relationship between international trade and climate governance, with particular focus on carbon border adjustment mechanisms, equitable climate action, and the challenges faced by developing economies. Prof. (Dr.) James J. Nedumpara, Head and Professor, CTIL and India Chair (WTO Chairs Programme), and Ms. Sunanda Tewari, Consultant/Assistant Professor, CTIL, participated in the discussions alongside distinguished experts from national institutions and universities. The symposium also included technical sessions on themes such as carbon data governance, emerging asymmetries in climate-linked trade measures, and India’s evolving carbon credit frameworks. The event provided a platform for meaningful academic and policy engagement, reinforcing the importance of institutional collaboration in advancing research, legal education, and informed dialogue on issues at the intersection of trade and climate policy.
