Ankit Garg is a Legal Consultant at the Centre for Trade and Investment Law (CTIL). He has been
working with the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of
India, where he provides legal support for the negotiation, drafting, and review of Free Trade
Agreements (FTAs) and related international legal instruments.
He has been actively engaged in several of India’s bilateral and multilateral trade negotiations,
including the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Review, the Indo-Pacific
Economic Framework (IPEF), the proposed India–US Bilateral Trade Agreement, and FTAs currently
under discussion with Australia, New Zealand, Chile, and Peru. His focus areas include trade in
goods, legal and institutional chapters, economic and technical cooperation, and related cross-cutting
issues.
Ankit holds an LL.M. in Business Laws as well as an MBA. Before joining the Department of
Commerce, Ankit worked as an Associate at a corporate law firm, where he advised clients on
commercial contracts, aircraft leasing and asset financing, mergers and acquisitions, and regulatory
compliance. He also represented clients before the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts, the
National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and
other forums.
